Eoin McCarthy
Eoin's story is one of the most unique, profound, and unconventional within the hair industry. As the son of a hairdresser, he found himself drawn to the industry just over seven years ago, following a successful career as a professional cyclist in Europe.
In his first year as a hair stylist, Eoin was awarded the prestigious title of Irish Barbering Apprentice of the Year for 2016. His hard work and dedication enabled him to condense his "apprentice" years into just one.
After gaining experience and a reputation in Ireland, Eoin made the move to AREA Studio in Melbourne, Australia, where he spent the next six years expanding his skillset and building his craft. In 2017, Eoin was awarded Victorian Barber of the Year, and he was also invited to join the Andis Global Education Team. He contributed to AREA Studio winning the HBIA Small Salon of the Year award consecutively in 2017 and 2018.
In 2019, Eoin actively educated, demonstrated, and judged at hair exhibitions globally. In 2020 and 2021, he won the International Men's Collection at the BEST of the BEST Awards and was a finalist in multiple awards and competitions worldwide for his debut collection "Unity In Diversity."
In 2020, Eoin co-founded and ran one of Australia's leading up-skilling facilities, AREA Academy. In the years since its inception, Eoin and his partner in crime, Leigh, have served thousands of hair professionals across Australia and internationally with their online platform, The Network. During this time, he was honored with the Special Recognition award at the inaugural Australian Modern Barber Awards, and he was the first barber to become an ambassador for Dyson.
2023 marks the start of a new chapter for Eoin. He is passionate about helping others find their purpose in our ever-evolving industry. As a coach for the industry, he now offers accelerated mentorship programs for barbershop owners, creating the next generation of leaders.
